Stunning Art Deco Bakelite mirror

£89.99

Stunning Art Deco mirror in Bakelite. This gorgeous antique mirror is a true historical artefact and it’s beautiful styling transcends eras. Imagine how beautiful this would look on your wall. Both the mirror and the frame are in excellent condition with no cracks or foxing. Bakelite (sometimes spelled Baekelite) was the first plastic made from synthetic components. It is a thermosetting resin, developed by the Belgian-American chemist Leo Baekeland in Yonkers, New York. Bakelite was patented on December 7, 1909. The creation of a synthetic plastic was revolutionary for its electrical non-conductivity and heat-resistant properties in electrical insulators, radio and telephone casings and such diverse products as kitchenware, jewellery, pipe stems, children’s toys, and firearms. Jewellery, and other designer objects made from Bakelite appeared at the 1925 Paris exhibition from which Art Deco got its name.  The motifs of Art Deco design were expressed in the new plastics among the interiors created by the best artists and designers in each country. Measures 53 cm across. Listed as collection only due to size and weight but I am happy to work with your courier, or to discuss options with you.
