Lovely mantle clock by Z Barraclough & Sons of Leeds.
Z Barraclough & Son, of 54 Briggate, Commercial St, Leeds, were retailers of good quality clocks and watches, and keen, along with many other retailers of the period, to promote themselves as purveyors of chronometer watches to the Admiralty.
This beautiful mantle clock features inlaid marquetry to the front, with brass end columns and feet. The face has roman numerals and black hands, with a glass cover and brass surround. The movement is by the Swiss firm of Buren. The Buren Watch Company was created in 1898 in the Swiss town Büren an der Aare, by the London company of H. Williamson Ltd, producing pocket watches and table clocks of all types.
The clock comes with its original key, and is in good working order, keeping good time with a fast but quiet tick.
There is some minor damage to the right hand side, not really noticeable unless you look for it, see photos.
