Description

Beautiful signed print by JW Petrie of ‘Final Farewell’ – an evocative portrayal of the Britannia Class 4-6-2 No 70013 Oliver Cromwell locomotive heading the famous ’15 Guinea special’ through Dent station, the highest mainline station in England, on it’s northbound journey to Carlisle.

This day marked the final farewell to British Rail’s standard gauge steam powered locomotion, now just a memory. This special commemorative journey of 314 miles started and finished at Liverpool Lime Street and included Rainhill, Manchester, Blackburn and Ais Gill as stopping places on the way to Carlisle.

This was the last named locomotive to remain in mainline service having started its career in May 1951, and was one of a distinguished class of 55 built at Crewe for mixed traffic purposes. Sections were designed at Derby, Brighton, Doncaster and Swindon under the direction of RA Riddles. No 70004 William Shakespeare was exhibited at the Festival of Britain in 1951.Framed under glass.

Measures 78cm by 58cm. Due to the size and the glass this item is collection only or I am happy to work with your courier.
